Private View of Feeling Good
NOW Gallery proudly presents the 2022 Young Artist Commission ‘Feeling Good’ by visual artist Joy Yamusangie.
Yamusangie’s fictional ‘Feeling Good’ club, celebrates their self expression, identity and evolving artist practice through Jazz.
“This imaginary club became a vision for me, a space that symbolised gender euphoria and speaks specifically to my own experience with understanding and celebrating my trans identity and my journey with learning music. I was inspired by the main character in the book Trumpet by Jackie Kay which I later learnt was based on the real life story of musician Billy Tipton. Thinking of how music, specifically Jazz, allowed both the fictional character and the real musician Billy to find a home for themselves.” Joy Yamusangie
Live performance by Awale Jant Band.
DJ set Alex Rita and Errol (Touching Bass).

About Awale Jant Band
Awale Jant Band is a great London-based Afro-Funk band led by Senegalese singer-songwriter Biram Seck and French guitarist Thibaut Remy. The group skillfully combines Senegalese traditions, funk, soul and Latin American rhythms.
About Alex Rita (Touching Bass)
Alex Rita — the Copenhagen-born, London-based selector, illustrator, singer and designer — is a talented seamstress in more ways than one. Alongside her partner, Errol, she is the main force behind Touching Bass, the South London-based community-come-club night, concert series, record label, staple NTS Radio show and curatorial/creative studio, which has slow-cooked to become a musical institution.
As a DJ, her passion for stitching together patchworks of percussive grooves and organic sounds stem from a youth spent in the nature-rich lands of rural Denmark. Listeners can be blessed with everything from spiritual jazz and soul to broken beat and warm house grooves in one sitting.
About Errol (Touching Bass)
Already dubbed as one of the UK’s key forces ‘pushing the culture forward’ by Complex, Errol is steadily carving out a unique, multifaceted space for himself as a DJ/broadcaster, curator/host, writer and founder of Touching Bass.
Underpinning it all is the London native’s passion for promoting the eclecticism of soulful music and the culture behind it which, among other things, has led to a varied local and increasingly international DJ schedule.
Drinks for the evening will be kindly provided by Hawkes.
