Celia Pym Takeover: Exploring the Art of Natural Dyeing – with Alice Burnhope
12pm – 2.30pm
7 December 2024
As part of a series of mending workshops celebrating Socks: The Art of Care and Repair, discover the magic of nature’s colours in a hands-on natural dying workshop designed to inspire creativity and environmental consciousness. For centuries, plants, vegetables, and flowers have been used to transform textiles with beautiful, natural hues. Now, it’s your turn to reconnect with nature through this fascinating craft!
In this 30-minute session, you’ll learn how to create a vibrant natural dye using food waste—an eco-friendly approach that highlights the beauty and sustainability of slow design. Under the expert guidance of award-winning textile artist Alice Burnhope, you’ll experiment with natural dye inks on paper and recycled fabrics, crafting your own unique visual statement. Alice will also share her expertise on sustainable practices and the therapeutic benefits of working with natural materials.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home your own naturally dyed fabric swatch and artwork. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to explore the art of natural dyeing, with an emphasis on mindfulness, creativity, and conscious design.
Join Alice for a fun, colourful, and environmentally mindful session that will leave you inspired and connected to the natural world!
