CHESTER HAYES
London-based dance artist Chester Hayes performs and creates movement for live performance, film, theatre and night-club settings. The artist takes inspiration from night-club culture and autobiographical narratives. He is the founder of club-night and performance collective ‘Sue Veneers’. Chester’s performance credits include works by Holly Blakey, Lloyd Newson, Jonathan Watkins and Franka Marlene Foth.
Whilst navigating the dreamlike landscapes of ‘Your Ship Has Landed’, viewers will encounter Hayes’ performers transcending the chaos of the hyper environment, moving through the audience bringing ritual and calm. They connect with the worlds of nature, science and fantasy on deeper, rhythmic levels and respond to Chan’s work with total immersion.
The performances will take place at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00pm during the evening of the Private View.
MILK SHANDY
Milk Shandy cut her teeth DJing at Dalston Superstore’s Tuesday night party Disco Spritz in 2015, and soon moved on to playing well established nights Homodrop, Discosodoma and Club Tantrum. She has since cemented her place on the East London queer scene, with appearances at London institutions Printworks, XOYO and The Glory, as well as hosting radio shows on NTS and Balamii. Her sets are eclectic, genre-bending and rhythm-forward, and she’ll be taking us on a synth-laded intergalactic ride for Your Ship Has Landed!
ED CURTIS
Ed Curtis is a South-London based fashion designer who creates experimental clothing adorned with optical prints and spray-painted lettering. In a recent collaboration with Stella McCartney on her recent launch of ‘Stella Shared 3′, Curtis designed a gender-less capsule collection of which Lydia Chan designed the Shop floor and windows for.
Curtis has designed one-off costumes for Hayes’ performers to wear throughout the night. The costumes are designed are a theatrical response to ‘Your Ship has Landed’, adopting Chan’s lens of distorted reality and embracing her alien dreams.
