The Island Icinori
The Island is a site-specific interactive storytelling experience for all ages imagined and created by French illustrators Icinori. As visitors step into the story, they begin their journey told through a three-dimensional landscape, characters and words. Along the way they will pick up clues and will find an ending revealed by looking into the centre of the island. The installation explores the possibilities of storytelling and puts the public at the center of the narrative, hinting at the importance of imagination and flights of fancy.
Icinori, aka Mayumi Otero & Raphael Urwiller are a French duo whose collaborative efforts have seen them illustrate, design, print and publish works across a range of mediums. They have been commissioned by Le Monde, New York Times, Wired, Pompidou Metx, Canal + and Wired among others. Their passion for design, image and form culminates in their publishing projects which has seen them produce over 30 books.
Founded by Nobrow in 2012, ELCAF began as a small one day festival and in only five years it has grown to become one of the leading festivals of its kind in the UK. Attracting over 3,000 visitors annually, ELCAF continues to spotlight emerging talent and celebrate the dynamic community of individual artists and collectives that are pushing the boundaries in their creative fields.
The Island is made possible through an ongoing partnership between NOW Gallery and ELCAF (The East London Comic & Arts Festival) as part of Greenwich Peninsula’s Urban Village Fete.
