Circular-Crafts Workshop with Charlotte Kidger
11am-2pm
London based Designer and Maker Charlotte Kidger is known for her use of salvaged materials and unconventional design processes to create carefully crafted objet d’art, furniture and public artworks. In their ephemeral materiality, Kidger’s sculptures have been referenced to remnants of a crumbling ruin, combining corrugated circular forms and broken textural surfaces with vibrant assemblages of colour. Led with a hands-on approach to investigating undervalued resources, Kidger’s practice highlights the potential of ‘Circular-Crafts’ and sustainable design.
For Craft Week 2023, NOW Gallery has invited Charlotte Kidger to host a workshop exploring the possibility of working with industrial by-products within sculpture. Visitors are invited to playfully assemble, collage, deconstruct and make in response to the materials provided. As part of the workshop, visitors will have the opportunity to be photographed with their sculptural creations and receive the image by postcard after the event.
All materials will be salvaged from local businesses ranging from construction sites to a hand-made sofa company, including rubberised hair, wool, springs, wood off-cuts, textile, foam, rope, pipe, tarpaulin, bricks and stone.
The workshops will run every 30 mins in a designated space inside NOW gallery, as part of Craft Week 2023 and Urban Village Fete. To guarantee your place in the workshop book one of the following slots. There will be additional availability for drop-ins throughout the day.
